Next Thursday, 21st May, come down to this baking class at local Danish eatery Snaps & Rye to learn three special recipes under the tuition of native Dane, Maria Mayerhofer.

Maria will guide you through three rye recipes during the evening – making a fig and fennel rye loaf, rye crisp breads and her fast becoming famous, ‘overnight rye buns’. At the end of the evening, you’ll get to take everything you make home with you – along with your newfound skills!

Following their February half-term workshop, the Notting Hill-based Creative Arts Club will be running another special event this month for May half-term.

This time round, half-term week will be dedicated to surrealism – a world of magic and mystery. With a little help from Dada and Dali, the Creative Arts Club will help budding young artists hop down the rabbit hole to escape into the unknown and the unknowable.

There will be no limit to the exploration of the imagination taking place during the workshop. For example, children will be asked to bring in photos of themselves that will be used to piece together with cutouts, creating wild and wacky photomontages that are also juxtaposed with surrealist objects. Likewise, as the Surrealists were obsessed with dreams, children will be asked to write and illustrate dream diaries at the start of each day.

Creative Arts Club May 2015 Half Term

This half-term workshop is aimed at kids from 4 to 7 years old, and costs £225 for the full week or £45 per day (all materials included). Morning sessions have already been fully booked up, but there are still spaces available for the afternoon sessions (1pm to 4pm each day). Drop off and pick up is in Notting Hill each day.

For more details of the workshop, or to book, please see www.thecreativeartsclub.com/holiday-workshops. You can also contact The Creative Arts Club by emailing info@thecreativeartsclub.com or calling 020 7205 2621.

The Creative Arts Club will also be running plenty of week-long workshops during the summer holidays, so do also check out details of these on their website!

One of Notting Hill’s finest bookstores, Book & Kitchen, has a couple of exciting events lined up for September!

First up, a ten-week masterclass in children’s picture book writing and illustration starts that month, taught by Dr Karenanne Knight. Starting on Monday 15th September, the course is perfect for anyone that’s got an idea for a children’s book  – whether actually properly planned out, only roughly jotted down, or even just kept in their heads for the moment – as at the masterclass, you’ll be able to find out exactly what it takes and what’s involved to develop such a book. The course will include special guest visit from publisher’s and children’s authors, which will help attendees find out more about not only the creative process, but also about the publishing side of things.

Book and Kitchen - Children's Book Masterclass

The ten-week course costs £399, which includes a copy of Dr Karenanne Knight’s The Picture Book Maker. More details on the course can be found here: www.bookandkitchen.com/ai1ec_event/masterclasspicturebookmaker/?instance_id=931

Also in September, Book and Kitchen will be hosting the Poster After Life exhibition by artist Gosia Łapsa-Malawska. The exhibition is based on a collection of old posters that Gosia photographed and collected in Europe and South America. The Polish artist – who is now based in London – has created new artworks from neglected ones, offering a fresh outlook on our streets and cities that is tinged with nostalgia.

Book and Kitchen - Poster After Life

The exhibition is on from Tuesday 2nd to Friday 29th September (closed Mondays) and entry is free.
