I popped along to the medspa beauty clinic on Notting Hill Gate recently to check out the stylish and serene spa and find out more about the types of treatments they offer.

Located on the first floor of the premises above Calder Pharmacy, you’re immediately transported away from the hustle and bustle of the busy street below and into a soothing and tranquil reception area. Off this space, there’s a number of different treatment rooms, all very well equipped and calmly decorated, with relaxing music piped into each. They are also all very spacious – there’s honestly nothing more annoying in a spa than being shown to a tiny little room with not enough space to swing a cat, let alone relax and get pampered!

I opted for a one-hour HydraFacial as my treatment, and was looked after the very friendly Alex. The HydraFacial is one of medspa’s signature treatments, involving the use of a machine that helps remove dead skin cells whilst also cleansing and hydrating the new skin, and treating it with serums. Prior to my facial, Alex asked me if I had any specific needs or areas that I was looking to target. I won’t go into the ins and outs of my skin here – but suffice to say, if any of you suffer from that classic problem of an ‘oily t-zone’, I’d highly recommend booking yourself into a HydraFacial pronto!

medspa

After thoroughly cleansing my face, Alex set to work with the HydraFacial machine, using it to go over my face twice to cleanse it. The actual sensation is a bit like a small tube being use to delicately extract impurities and dead skin cells away whilst also hydrating at the same time – you feel ‘water’ being spread over your skin. Alex did mention that I should let her know if I felt uncomfortable at any time; the treatment, however, most definitely wasn’t painful in the slightest, and didn’t even fall under the ‘discomfort’ category. I personally quite enjoyed the sensation, feeling that it was really doing its job well!

Following a very soothing and cooling face mask – during which I was also given a head massage – the special HydraFacial machine was once again called into action to deliver a moisturising serum.

Verdict? I was rather excited to look in the mirror, post-treatment, to be greeted with wonderfully clear and practically glowing skin. And the real verdict is what others thought – everyone I came into contact with soon after and the next day (which is when Alex said I’d really see the effects of the facial) did indeed confirm that my skin looked much, much brighter and smoother.

As I mentioned, Alex had asked me prior to my treatment whether I had any particular concerns about my skin that I’d like her to address. medspa do pride themselves on making sure that their facials (and many of their other treatments) target their customer’s particular requirements – whether you’re looking to freshen up your skin, target wrinkles, address dryness or tackle acne or problem pores, there’s definitely something for you at medspa.

medspa

They arealso a one-stop shop for all other kinds of beautification too, with body treatments (including a body wrap treatment or lymphatic drainage), massage options (classic, deep tissue, hot stone amongst the choices on the menu), manis and pedis, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, plus waxing and the soprano pain free hair treatment available to ensure that you’re pampered and made over from top to toe!

medspa couldn’t be better located in Notting Hill, but the clinic is a world away from the busy area in which it’s located – I’d highly recommend that you book yourself in for a pampering treatment at this excellent clinic!

Launching next Wednesday, 9th July, Morning Gloryville is raving its way into W11! This early morning clubbing experience will be the perfect way for West Londoners to wake themselves up before work, fully pumped up and ready to face a busy day.

Morning Gloryville started in London in May 2013, turning clubbing on its head – a healthy means of expression, this sober style of clubbing at the start of a day is also a fantastic social experience as well as a great way of keeping fit. It’s already taken the city by storm – the existing monthly event now attracts more than 800 attendees and has been extensively featured in both the UK and international press.

Morning Gloryville

Each event takes place from 6.30am to 10.30am, and attendees – named ‘citizens’ – will be welcomed by Morning Gloryville ‘Wake Up Angels’ who offer free massages. Yoga teachers are also present, who lead small group sequences that attendees can dip into at will; fresh smoothie and coffee bars are also there for you to have your juice or coffee fix. But it’s the pumping dance floor, world-class DJs and motivational dance team that you’re really there for; ‘dress to sweat’, with colour and fun festival gear fully encouraged, and unleash the raw inner you! Event better – each session is open to all ages!

Morning Gloryville

Morning Gloryville was jointly created by Samantha Moyo, an experienced event producer, and Nico Thoemmes, a professional body-worker, who came together to create an experience for London city-dwellers that would shift their perceptions of mornings and clubbing, and increase their wellbeing. Having already launched in New York and Barcelona, it’s soon to bring it’s early-morning raves to Barcelona, Brighton, Dublin, San Francisco, Paris, Tokyo, Zurich and Sydney this summer and in more cities across the world by the end of the year.

Founder Samantha Moyo says:

“Our primary aim in creating these events is to infuse connectivity, energy and wellbeing into the city. Besides being a vigorous workout, Morning Gloryville offers city-dwellers from all backgrounds, ages and professions a fun and healthy way to relax their minds, shake off their inhibitions and plug into the energy of ‘oneness’. The overwhelming response from our attendees is that the positive energising experience leads to them being more enthusiastic, productive and empowered at work. Go to an interview after Morning Gloryville and you will get the job. If not, money back guarantee!”

But how have attendees “raved” about Morning Gloryville?

“It’s literally turned my life around! I live for my Glorified mornings”

“Best start to the day ever! Can doctors prescribe this?!”

“Best wake up call ever! I never have that big a smile on my face as I walk into the office”

“I know plenty of people who have ideas, but you actually went and followed through, and what a result!” Paul Moss, BBC

“A fresh type of exercise class, with great music, cool DJs and positive affirmation, signals a fitness new wave” —The Sunday Times

For more details, please see Morning Gloryville’s website at www.morninggloryville.com, or check them out on Facebook! Tickets for this event can be booked at morninggloryvillewestlondon01.bpt.me.

MYZ Beauty Boutique opened its very smart doors to Notting Hill locals a few weeks ago, so we went down to Powis Terrace to check out the swish new salon and its very wide range of beauty treatments.

Welcomed by owner Maryam – and her amazingly adorable puppy, Cookie – MYZ Beauty Boutique sits in a double-floor premises just off Kensington Park Road. Up on the exceedingly stylish ground floor level are the manicure and pedicure stations, all decked out in muted and stylish beiges and browns. There’s a number of manicure areas lining the salon and three pedicure areas at the far end – with cosy and comfortable reclining chairs and porcelain basins (no plastic tubs and awkward seating here!), this has got to be one of the most decadent pedicure areas I’ve ever seen. Downstairs are two private rooms that are used for a range of treatments, including massages.

I was at the MYZ Beauty Boutique to try one of the manicure treatments and ended up having the paraffin wax option, a manicure that’s also known as “Maryam’s favourite” – what better recommendation than to get the owner’s top choice! After picking a tropical orange-y red number from the great selection of OPI and Essie shades, I sat down with the super-friendly nail technician Annabel who would be working her magic on my nails. The paraffin wax element involves having your hands “painted” with warm wax – which is both weird and strangely delightful in equal measures! – before you place your hands in warming gloves for ten minutes. The end results means your hands are left wonderfully soft and your nails perfectly prepped for the rest of the manicure. End result – a week later my manicure is still perfect on my (normally) far from beautiful nails. I can’t stop looking at how nice they look!

During my pampering, I chatted with the lovely Maryam to find out more about the salon and its ethos, as well as how she came to open it. Alongside manis and pedis – whether express or luxury – the MYZ Beauty Boutique offers a range of facials that use natural and botanical based products, as well as microdermabrasion and light therapy, and skin treatments involving the revolutionary Caci system. All the salon’s massages are bespoke meaning there simply aren’t any different types listed on their menu; you turn up and discuss with the therapist what sort of treatment you’re looking for. For people like me – who don’t really know what kind of massage they necessarily want, but know they like to relax – that’s a real plus! And to round off the complete top to toe range of treatments at this Notting Hill salon, eyebrow tinting, waxing and threading are also all available.

Even more importantly, the MYZ Beauty Boutique is very reasonably priced. All treatments definitely fall into the “affordable” category rather than “special treat” – which of course means there’s the opportunity for plenty of return visits! A number of celebrities have already been in for some pampering – check out who’s in the picture (with Maryam) below!

Maryam’s own background is in law, specifically in the corporate world. After a few years pursuing this career path, she realised that it wasn’t the life for her – and went into the fashion industry as a buyer. A few years travelling the world in this profession led her to desire a more permanent base, and a job looking after luxury brands at Selfridges followed. The MYZ Beauty Boutique was born of a love of always being a fan of beauty treatments – even as a struggling student – and the salon contains influences and ideas picked from Maryam’s years of travelling in the fashion industry. One thing was always clear to Maryam, however – that Notting Hill would be the ideal location for her business. (Lucky us!)

All in all, I experienced a fabulous, relaxing and fun visit to the MYZ Beauty Boutique – and my manicure was of the highest quality. I’d certainly recommend that you pay them a visit very soon.
