The tour is run (and written) by a lifelong, Bristol-based Sweeney fan John, and guests from as far away as Dundee and Cornwall are expected. Be a part of this special day! The tour is being run to coincide with the whole TV series being released on Blu-ray.

I’m sure many of you remember the show on your TV sets – it hit screens in January 1975 and became an overnight success, reaching over 20 million viewers. Starring John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, The Sweeney spanned four series and two successful feature films…and of course made John and Dennis household names.

Interestingly enough, the show was one of the first to be shot totally on location rather than in a studio. Additionally, it was shot on 16mm film, which meant each episode felt more like a feature film. The producers had come up with the idea after seeing a screening of The French Connection.

Locations on The Sweeney Tour

You’ll be able to visit the former 19th-century school that was used by Euston Films for all interior shots, and opposite the iconic street where the iconic opening titles were shot in 1974.
