Sing West London – a brand new choral initiative – has been in touch to let us know about two exciting musical events taking place in Notting Hill – for which they’re looking for keen amateur singers to take part in!
First up is an event at St John’s Church in Notting Hill on 14th September 2013 in which participants will be singing excerpts from Haydn’s Creation, with rehearsals and the performance of this choral masterpiece all taking place in one day. For £25 (£20 if booked before 7th September!) you’ll be able to take part in a vocal warm up, two rehearsal sessions (in the morning and afternoon) and the one-hour evening concert itself. There’s also introductions at the beginning of the day, a free lunchtime concert and a pre-concert talk (the latter two optional, although both are related to the repertoire that will be performed in the evening), plus post concert drinks!
This certainly sounds ideal for those of you who are itching to join a choir or want to take part in singing in public as part of a group – but just don’t have the time to commit to weekly sessions, month after month!
If singing isn’t perhaps quite your bag (*coughs* I certainly can’t sing at all *coughs*), then friends, family and the general public are more than welcome to attend the evening concert, with tickets costing £5 – this includes the pre-concert talk. All proceeds from the concert will be going directly to St John’s Church and the work they do, so it is well worth attending.
Sing West London are hosting another one-day event on 2nd November (at the same venue, St John’s Church) in which Mozart’s Requiem will be the chosen piece. Once again, the cost for this is £25 and again there’s an “early-bird” price available if payment is made a week in advance of the event.
For further details on Sing West London and the events they’re hosting in the next few months, please see their website at www.singwestlondon.com – you can also sign up to take part in either of the events via the site. Do also remember to check them out on Facebook and Twitter.
