The photography exhibition Under This One Tree by Alan McFetridge will open on the Summer Solstice, 21st June 2026 (4pm – 8pm), at Daisy Green Holland Park. Running until 19th September 2026, the exhibition combines photography, landcare and the living public space that is Holland Park. The exhibition is also a return to the lifelong relationship with trees for London-based artist Alan, who is also the founder of the artist-led Centre for Ecological Philosophy (C.E.P.).
The title of the exhibition draws on Zbigniew Herbert’s poem Mały ptaszek / A Small Bird, which was first published in 1957 in Hermes, pies i gwiazda/ Hermes, Dog and Star. Renowned landscape photographer Robert Adams later quoted a line from the poem in a handwritten letter to the artist, “How can we live anywhere else but in this one tree?” following an unplanned sequence of events that began ten years earlier.
Pieces in this exhibition extend previous ecological work by the artist, including his long-term work on landscape fire, which began in 2016 with fieldwork in Fort McMurray, Alberta, after the Horse River Wildfire, supported by the Royal Photographic Society Environmental Awareness Bursary.
The exhibition is curated by Justin Hibbs, and the first body of work made for the Daisy Green Collection Artist Residency in Holland Park, with a summer programme of workshops to follow. Launching to coincide with the summer solstice, this is the inaugural exhibition during his residency at Daisy Green.
Inviting Alan McFetridge to be our inaugural artist in residence was an obvious choice. His ecological practice is grounded in empathy and compassion for communities affected by global climate change.
Curator Justin Hibbs
Alan McFetridge is currently the Daisy Green Collection Artist in Residence, developing exhibitions, workshops and public programmes that bring together art, ecology, hospitality and public life.
