The Jar Family gig at The Elgin, Thursday 22nd August

Next Thursday, 22nd August, Hartlepool’s finest band The Jar Family will be hosting a free gig at the very fine Notting Hill pub, The Elgin on Ladbroke Grove.

As one of the most unique live bands of 2013, and fresh from tours with Jake Bugg and Alabama 3, this gig is sure to be a cracker and right up the street of anyone that likes a bit of rock – or want to hear some industrial folk, a musical genre that The Jar Family are the proud inventors of!

The Jar Family are made up of five prolific singer-songwriters and listening to some of the tracks it’s not hard to see where some of the influences to their rocky-folksy-bluesy mix of music comes from – a bit of Dylan, some Jim Morrison, smatterings of Fleetwood Mac (I personally also felt some of Steven Tyler’s harmonica intros!), with even elements of more recent British rock such as Oasis, Kasabian and Pete Doherty all coming into play.

Next Thursday at The Elgin, they’ll be launching their forthcoming album Jarmalade, which will be released a few days later on 26th August. They’ll also be top of the bill at the free evening gig at The Elgin that night, so do also come down then for a rocking night out!

You may well have heard their recent storming single, Machine, used in the BBC’s Formula 1 coverage – and it may come as no surprise to learn that the song has also been adopted by their home town team, Hartlepool United, as the anthem that the players run out onto the pitch to. Take a listen to the song here:

The band are also being honoured at the Darlington Beer Festival on 24th August – where they’ll also be performing – with a beer named ‘Jarmalade’, after their album.

Check out the Jar Family’s website for more information on the band, or catch up with a host of their videos on the band’s YouTube channel.
