Portobello Star in Time Out Eating & Drinking Awards 2009
Portobello Star, at 171 Portobello Road, has been named as a runner-up in the "Best New Bar" category in this year's Eating & Drinking Awards by Time Out magazine. Although not technically new - it's been there for years - it has undergone quite a transformation recently to make it one of the must-go places in Notting Hill.
Time Out commends the bar for its "interesting take on drinks old and new" and says that its a "cocktail haven".
Sounds like the kind of place I'll be this weekend!

Notting Hill makes into the "cheesiest movie lines ever" list
We've all seen the movie (probably), we know all the filming locations (more or less) and we know all the lines from the film (unlikely). Now, the film Notting Hill has made a list of the cheesiest movie lines of all time (quite unsurprisingly - let's face it, the movie is one big Richard Curtis cheesefest).
In a poll of 4,000 moviegoers, Notting Hill reached seventh place with its line:
...as said by Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) to William Thacker (Hugh Grant).
In case you need a further memory prompt, here it is:
Top of the poll was the fantastic Dirty Dancing line, "nobody puts Baby in the corner", as uttered by the late, great Patrick Swayze. Which makes me ask, what are these poll respondents thinking? Classic, yes. Cheesy, no!
