Goldfinger celebrates 10 years with a fundraising event for its academy

Celebrated local furniture showroom Goldfinger is celebrating 10 years of business this year, and will be marking the occasion at its annual fundraiser in October. The fundraising event will be held in support of its Goldfinger Academy, an initiative to create more opportunities for vulnerable local residents, young people out of education and young offenders in North Kensington.

The event will feature a live auction as well as an online silent auction on the Goldfinger website, the bidding for which will open at 5pm on 21st September. Items featured in the silent auction include a design consultation with Studio Duggan and dinner at Soho House’s Redchurch Townhouse.

The Goldfinger Academy provides a safe environment for beginners to learn, make mistakes and embark on the furniture-making journey. Goldfinger’s first apprentice was Jason Rowe, a Trellick Tower resident who volunteered with no previous experience in 2016. Jason went on to become an on-site apprentice carpenter, completing an accredited qualification at the Building Crafts College alongside paid work experience at Goldfinger.

In 2022 Goldfinger launched their Future Makers traineeship, which empowers young people aged 16 to 25 (including school leavers and young people not in education, employment or training) to become sustainably-minded designers of the future by working alongside professional makers by giving them hands-on experience. This summer traineeship will be held 25th August – 1st September this year, with trainees constructing a mock-timber frame structure on the green space behind the Trellick Tower. They will learn about traditional timber framing from experienced craftsman David Leviatin of London Timber Frame.

About Goldfinger

Opening its doors for the first time at its location at the base of the Trellick Tower 10 years ago, Goldfinger creates beautiful bespoke furniture and homeware for private clients – often in collaboration with celebrated interior designers and architects – with the belief that design can be a force for good. The company is named after Erno Goldfinger, the renowned architect who designed the 31-floor Brutalist Trellick Tower.

Working as a social enterprise, Goldfinger has always been committed to making a positive impact on the local environment and community. They reinvest their profits into their social outreach programmes; these include The Goldfinger Academy, mentioned above, and The People’s Kitchen, a free monthly community meal.

Their designs (as seen above) – made from locally-sourced and reclaimed materials – have also been seen in leading retailers and hospitality venues such as Selfridges, Soho Home, Gail’s Bakery and others.

Marie Carlisle, Co-Founder and CEO of Goldfinger, explains why supporting the local community has always been at the heart of their mission:

At Goldfinger, we believe that people and planet are two sides of the same coin, and that sustainability can’t be achieved without supporting the communities we live and work in.
