Farm the City hosts Farmival in W10, Saturday 21st September

Farmival comes to Meanwhile Gardens, W10 this Saturday!  The one-day festival – now in its second year – will see live music, food growing workshops, seedling giveaways, kids’ craft activities, food and drink (including London brewed beers, international street food, and locally grown herbal teas and cupcakes) and tours of Meanwhile Gardens’ rooftop growing space…and more!

This not-for-profit event is being hosting by Farm the City London, a volunteer group who are based on Golborne Road, and is sponsored by the council’s Love Golborne fund as well as businesses and community groups. Money raised will be going towards new growing areas in West London, in particular for sites in the Golborne Ward in North Kensington which is rated the second most-deprived ward in London. Strummerville – the music charity set up by the friends and family of Joe Strummer, which offers support, resources and performance opportunities to artists that would not otherwise have access to these things – are one of Farmival’s supporters.

The Earth

One of the highlights of the day will be the band The Earth, who will be headlining the event. This Welsh band’s members aren’t new to the music scene at all, comprising of Mark Roberts of Catatonia, Dafyff Ieuan from Super Furry Animals, bassist Tristan Marley and Dionne Bennett from Peth. Expect super pop and funky bass, mixed in with psychedelic orchestral undertones.

Unplugged by the Pond Stage will be taking place from 3pm to 5.15pm, with acoustic sets, poetry and open mic sessions – swing by to sample some of the area’s finest unsigned singer-songwriters and spoken word artists.

You’ll be able to participate in plastic bottle greenhouse building at Farmival – walls, doors and roof panels made from bottles and locally grown bamboo will be used to create 100% recycled greenhouses that will go on to help grow seedlings and exotic plants.

Kids at a food workshop at last year’s event

Amongst the workshops, Growing Kultur will be showing festival-goers how to re-invent their skincare regime using ingredients normally found in the kitchen.

There will also an opportunity to learn how to repot seedlings into a big pot of organic compost with a homemade propagator – and with a seedling giveaway of a selection of winter greens by specialists Real Seeds, you can then use this knowledge at home!

Come along and join in the fun this Saturday at this FREE event!
