Addison Singers Classical and Jazz Choirs team up for A Festival of Music

The Addison Singers Classical and Jazz Choirs will be teaming up to host a wonderful concert – titled A Festival of Music – on Saturday 29th June at St Peter’s Church, Southfield Road, W4.

Maestros Jarman, Hough and Morgan will lead the Jazz Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Chamber and Oratorio Choirs on a musical tour through an extensive British and American repertoire. The jazz choirs will focus on music played at jazz, popular and classical music festivals over the decades, in particular tipping its hat to the spirit of the counterculture movement of the 1960s and 1970s with two songs from the musical Hair – Aquarius and Let the Sunshine In. There will also be My Funny Valentine (performed by Miles Davis at the 1963 Monterey Jazz Festival and Roberta Flack at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1996), as well as All the Cats Join In, Caravan (performed by Ellington at 1969 Berlin Jazz Festival), Gilead and I Say Yeh Yeh!

The Jazz Ensemble will be revisiting some old favourites including Embraceable You, I Say a Little Prayer, Old Devil Moon, One for My Baby, Steam Heat, and That Old Black Magic.

The Oratorio Choir will be performing John Rutter’s Sprig of Thyme and the Chamber Choir will be performing Jonathan Dove’s The Passing Of The Year.

The choirs will join together for a rousing performance of New York, New York by Kander & Ebb, and Jenkins’ Jubilate Deo. Jenkins celebrated his eightieth birthday this year, and was recently featured (for the first time) as Composer of the Week on BBC Radio 3.

Tickets cost £18 in advance or £3 for under 16s (plus a small booking fee) or £20 on the door/£5 for under £16s. Tickets can be purchased online at www.addisonsingers.com/event/joint-jazz-classical-summer-2024-concert.
