Restaurants & Cafes

As to be expected, there are countless places to eat in the area, some very affordable, some pretty exclusive, some famous for one reason or another, that we couldn't possible name every single place. However, we bring those places that we think a worth checking out.

The Churchill Arms
119 Kensington Church Street, W8
Underground: Notting Hill Gate

Very friendly pub, with a fantastic atmosphere - the kind of place where you everyone probably would know your name, if they could. Serves delicious Thai food at very good prices. Absolutely beautiful in the summer when the outside of the pub is covered in flowers.

Electric Brasserie
191 Portobello Road, W11
Website: www.electricbrasserie.com
Underground: Notting Hill Gate
Next to the cinema of the same name, this is one of the prime eating spots in Notting Hill. Vast menu serving modern fare, including breakfasts. Recommended.

Hummingbird Bakery
133 Portobello Road, W11
Website: www.hummingbirdbakery.com

Underground: Notting Hill Gate
Delicious vanilla and chocolate cup cakes with thick, creamy icing...is your mouth watering yet? A selection of other yummy cakes and various sweet things also available to eat in with coffee or take away. Recommended as a stop on your way to/from Portobello Road market.

Kensington Place
201-207 Kensington Church Street, W8
Underground: Notting Hill Gate

Don't be fooled by the name (and postcode), this is just off Notting Hill Gate. A huge place whose giant windows provide good opportunities to gawk at passers-by (unless, you're one of them...and believe me it's not that pleasant walking by). Set lunch from around £14.50.

Lazy Daisy Cafe
59a Portobello Road, W11
Underground: Notting Hill Gate
A sweet cafe serving a good selection of food and an all-day breakfast at very reasonable prices. Also perfect for mid-afternoon tea or coffee with a slice of cake. Inside and outside seating (in a courtyard away from the road) makes it a pleasant place to while away the time.

The Mas Cafe
6-8 All Saints Road, W11
Underground: Westbourne Park
Yet another bar/restaurant that's oh-so fashionable. You need to get in before 10pm, after that it's members only.

Pizza Express
137 Notting Hill Gate, W11

Underground: Notting Hill Gate
Surely one of the nicest Pizza Expresses in London? One of the best things about this place is the wonderfully cosy atmosphere, yet, having said that, the restaurant is on the large side. Quite a variety of pizzas on offer, yet they do other dishes as well (pasta & salads). The good thing about this place is that you could easily feed yourself for £10 if you don't want to splash out. But if you do...

Rodizio Rico
111 Westbourne Grove, W2
Website: www.rodizio.co.uk
Underground: Bayswater or Queensway
An interesting concept, this one. There are only three things on the menu: meat, meat & fish or the vegetarian option...! Really, it's an all you can eat affair - for example, choose the meat option and the waiters will continuously come round with big skewers of various meats, ready to carve onto your plate. There's also a salad and veg buffet that you can help yourself from for your side dishes. A great restaurant, but I would only recommend it if a) you have a very hearty appetite (if so, it's great value!) and b) you really, really, really like meat!

Taqueria
139 - 143 Westbourne Grove, W11
Website: www.coolchiletaqueria.co.uk
Underground: Notting Hill Gate
This is my new favourite! But then again, I am a big fan of Mexican food, so perhaps that's not so surprising. Upon ordering your chosen dish, you scoop it into small flour tortillas - together with various condiments - to make your meal. Modern decor, and fantastic cocktails (try the Margarita Flor de Jamaica), not to mention a vast selection of tequilas. Go there now!
